Saddles

These galleries are intended to give you an idea of saddle styles, features and cost, so that you can more easily decide on what you need in your custom order saddle.

Standard Mule Saddle - our most popular custom item and a great value!

Our mule saddles have wood and rawhide covered trees with actual mule bars. These saddles are also offered with horse bars to meet you and your animals’ needs.

The mule bars have less rock front to back to allow for most mule’s straighter top line. Typically, not always, a tree with horse bars on a mule’s back can be pushed down on front or back of saddle and the end with no pressure will rock up like a rocking chair. When you cinch down the front of the saddle then sit towards back of animal pushing the back of the saddle down, it causes great lifting pressure on the front cinch. This is highly uncomfortable for your mule and can cause physical damage to the mules back as well as bad behavior because of pain.

Our base price mule saddles come standard with a Wade or slick fork tree. These can be built with a swell fork tree,  i.e. Will James, Association or Low Moose to name a few, at an additional charge of $125 to cover the extra labor involved in covering swells.

The standard mule saddle comes with a 3″x3″ post horn; others can be requested at a slight fee. Cantle is finished with a top binding or “pencil roll”. The standard height is slightly over 4 inches. The saddle come with 2 sets of breast collar dees, a lower set for traditional breast collars and a higher set for Martingale style pulling collars. Rings are installed by screws into the tree for britchen and crupper. These saddles have a double dee rigging that is cut and designed for ease of forward leg movement. The rigging is rawhide wrapped and leather bound on both front and back dees to insure extra strength and durability.

Saddle comes with your choice of 3″ rear cinch and 2″ rear billets all lined and stitched or installation of rear latigos and latigo keepers. Saddle comes with 3″ stirrup leathers twisted and wrapped to ensure staying twisted and to easy knee stress. Standard stirrups are 2 1/2″ Visalias wood and galvanized metal bound with leather foot treads. Stirrup leathers also have Blevins Quick Change buckles installed. Front latigo and off billet comes installed. Skirts are round with real sheepskin lining. We use Herman Oak or Wickett and Craig skirting leather, both American companies. The standard hardware is stainless steel. Saddle also comes with a double cut boarder outline included in price.
